U.S. President Joe Biden’s Tuesday attempt to call out racist remarks by a speaker at a campaign rally for presidential candidate Donald Trump backfired, when Trump and other Republicans accused him of calling their supporters “garbage.” The White House said on Wednesday he was responding to “hateful rhetoric” by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, while Trump accused Biden and Harris of finally saying what they “really think” of Trump’s supporters. “So our president thinks about half of America like this? We’re not garbage, we’re not trash. We’re the American people,” North Carolina Trump supporter Heather Johnson said.
