Five new cases of COVID-19 reported locally Jan. 23

Five new cases of COVID-19 were reported to the Grey Bruce Health Unit Jan.23.

Public health says single confirmed cases were from Brockton, Hanover, Huron-Kinloss, Saugeen Shores and West Grey.

There are now 37 known active cases of the novel coronavirus in the two counties, according to public health’s daily situation report.

There are also 74 high-risk contacts associated with active cases and one active probable case – a case that is not lab-confirmed but the individual is symptomatic and a high-risk contact of an active case.

Two people are currently hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

To date, there have been 673 confirmed cases of the virus in Grey-Bruce. Public health says 591 of those cases have recovered, while 45 have been referred to other health units.

No long-term care homes, schools or daycare centres are under a COVID-19 outbreak.
