Storylines

Rangers: Pre match preparations for the visit of Celtic (and indeed Thursday’s Europa League qualifier in Armenia against Alashkert) have been thrown into crisis by a COVID-19 outbreak in the Rangers camp, one that kept manager Steven Gerrard from making the trip and could rule him and several players out of the derby.

“The thing is, whoever is in charge and whatever squad and whatever players are available for the game, we are looking forward to it,” said assistant manager Gary McAllister. “We will be totally committed and we will be well prepared. The build up to this game is always the same, I can feel it over here in Armenia. Our players will be busting to get on this pitch on Sunday, whoever it is, whoever makes it, whoever is available.”

Celtic: Ange Postecoglu’s side might have made it to the Europa League group stages but they had to overcome an almighty defensive wobble to do so with Joe Hart making one error and Carl Starfelt another as AZ Alkmaar almost overcame a three goal aggregate deficit. Though consecutive 6-0 wins in the league eased some of the manager’s difficulties it has been a chastening start for the Australian, eliminated by Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers and beaten by Hearts in his first league match. How it would help to emerge from his first trip to Ibrox with three points.

Prediction

It is hard to be sure what sort of side Rangers will be able to field and as such perhaps Celtic deserve minor favorite tags in what is sure to be a thrilling contest. However the return of fans to Ibrox might just even the odds. PICK: Rangers 2 Celtic 2
