Exercise equipment maker Peloton Interactive Inc is recalling its Tread+ and Tread treadmill machines after injuries and a death, according to a statement Wednesday from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The company had resisted implementing a recall when the commission first issued a warning last month, after one child died in an incident involving the machine.
But on Wednesday, the company announced a voluntary recall of its Tread+ and Tread treadmill machines over safety concerns.
“I want to be clear, Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that we recall the Tread+,” CEO John Foley said in a statementm CNBC reports. “We should have engaged more productively with them from the outset. For that, I apologize.”
The company is telling customers to immediately stop using those models nnd contact Peloton for a full refund, or other qualified remedy.
